Do you feel that teaching a Pointer to retrieve will take away any desire to point or find birds? I am asking because most trials and/or bird dog events require retrieving to hand and some of these events soundlike a lot of fun, but I dont want to risk ruining a bird finding machine.
I do not think that it would take away and of the dogs hunting desire at all. If the force retreive is done correctly then i don't think that you have anything to worry about.
